Posted by Matt Yeamans on December 21, 2015 at 10:05 AM

At the Kansas City Stampede this weekend, one of the toughest regular season high school tournaments in the country, Allen finished third as a team. This is Allen’s highest finish ever at this tournament, as they finished behind Tuttle, Oklahoma, the #17 ranked team in the country, and 12th ranked Archer, Georgia according to Intermat Wrestling. However, the Eagles finished ahead of three other Intermat top 50 teams – Neosho, MO (#35), Sand Springs, OK (#36), and Platte County, MO (#41). Going into the season, Intermat had Allen at number 23.

With a tough field of more than 40 teams, thirteen Eagles advanced to the gold bracket (championship bracket) at their respective weight on Saturday, and seven came home with hardware by tournament’s end.

Braeden Redlin, who had four state champions in his bracket, hit the mats for the first time this regular season in route to his second place finish at 152 pounds. Juwan Robinson had seven state champions in his bracket and finished 4th at 145 pounds, while Patrick Bryan also finished 4th at 220 pounds.  Evan Hackett finished 5th at 170, Logan Brown placed 6th at 113, Nico Manzonelli placed 7th at heavyweight, and Josh Myers finished 8th at 182.

It was a strong showing for the Eagles in their toughest tournament of the season as they now head into the holiday break. Their next action is on New Year’s Day as they host the Texas Outlaw Tournament January 1-2. Come out and kick off the New Year by supporting your defending 6A State Champions at home that weekend. Action starts at 9:00am on Friday, January 1 and 9:30am on Saturday, January 2.
